What is the SAS website?
SAS stands for the Standards Aligned System and was developed by the PA Department of Education to improve student achievement. SAS identifies six elements that have an impact on student achievement: Standards, Assessments, Curriculum Framework, Instruction, materials & Resources, and Safe and Supportive Schools (PA Department of Education, 2015). The SAS website is user friendly and provides teachers an effective way to align the Pennsylvania Academic and Core Standards to make teaching effective. The SAS website also provides PA educators with networking technologies that create opportunities to communicate and collaborate with other educators across the state (PA Department of Education, 2015).
How to download assessments?
From the SAS home page, click on the “Assessment” tab, then under the assessment tab click “Assessment Creator” tab. From there, four choices of assessments are generated: Summative, Formative, Benchmark, and Diagnostic. A definition for each assessment is available by clicking on the plus sign in the left hand corner. Scrolling lower on the page, under the tab “Select a Grade Level/Subject Area,” select the content area, below that select the grade level, and finally select the question type. If a specific standard needs to be addressed, that can be selected below question type. Once all information is entered, click the search link and an assessment will generate below.
What are the resources?
Resources and materials available on the SAS website are Lesson and Unit Plans, Educational Resources, Videos, PA Educator Created Content, Professional Development, Instructional Content, Assessments, Web-Based Content, and Safe Schools Resources. Theses are available under the “Resources and Materials” tab.
How to download lesson plans?
A lesson plan can be downloaded from the “Resources and Materials” tab by clicking on the box labeled “Lesson/Unit Plan” and selecting the grade and subject area in the dropdown box. Materials can be printed from the website.
